Your school is off to a great start to the 2024 school year! Thank you for all your support (more on that below). You are
making a difference. We have 153 students and a staff of 15 who teach them and direct the school.
Staff Spotlight
Lexsy Puerto was promoted to the role of administrator in August 2023. She has worked at TCS since 2008, as a math
teacher and as secretary. Lexsy is responsible for the day-to-day business of the school in Trujillo.
Parent Participation
We are very excited to report that some of our students’ parents have taken it upon themselves to do some projects on
the school grounds. Several parents painted the outside of our
classroom buildings. They are currently raising money for a new water tank.
Local Leadership
In 2006, following Hurricane Katrina, the West Metro church of Christ in Hiram, GA assumed oversight of TCS from the
Slidell, LA congregation.
The church’s elders handled most of that work.
Over time, as people have moved into different seasons of life, the time has come for some others to step into those roles. The current elders at West Metro have established a local Board of Directors to oversee TCS stateside.
This board is made up of five volunteers of varying professional backgrounds. Jack Vanderpool and Phil Robertson – two of the original elders and the men who have been most closely involved – continue to serve the board in an advisory capacity.
Many non-rofit organizations consume a substantial portion of their funding on administrative and overhead costs.
TCS has never done that.
Our only administrative costs are postage for the
newsletters and wire transfer fees for sending the money that supports the school to our bank in Trujillo.
No one has ever taken a salary or other compensation stateside.
On the contrary, most of our leadership are also sponsors.
Now – for the challenging part…
Inflation Impact
Since 2006, inflation in Honduras has outpaced inflation in the US at nearly a three to one rate. A basket of goods that
cost $100 in 2006 has increased by $58 in the US and by $164
in Honduras. Our average staff salary is a little over $6,000/year. While some things are less expensive there, key items
like food and gasoline cost about the same amount as they do
in the US. Our teachers and staff are dedicated, hard-working people. They are thrifty and resourceful with the funds we are able to provide.
However, we want to provide more.
Money Matters
Our monthly sponsorship target is $50 per student. Whether you sponsor one child or many, in full or in part, we sincerely thank you. We do not intend to raise that target.
We do, however, need your help in broadening our sponsor base.
Help us spread the word to potential sponsors, whether individuals, churches or others. If you would like, you can simply

Our monthly sponsorships are the backbone of our financial support, but there are additional ways to give.
Some suggestions:
∙One-time gifts. Any amount. Any time. They help immensely.
∙Additional sponsorships – full or partial
- New sponsors
- Additional sponsorships from existing sponsors who are able and would like to do more
- For people who want to help but aren’t able to send $50/month, feel free to send any monthly amount you choose. It all helps.
∙RDA distributions
- For those who are in position to have required minimum distributions from IRAs, please know that contributions from those can be structured to be completely tax-free by having them set up to automatically go to TCS

You are making a difference in their life. The grade your student is in is referenced in the picture.
Their student number begins with a letter.
The letter P indicates “preparatory” or Kindergarten.
The letter A is first grade, B is second grade, and so on. Sixth grade students will graduate from TCS in November.
Our goal is for you to sponsor the same child the duration of their time at TCS.
If you have a different student, your original sponsored student is no longer enrolled. In addition, if you sponsored a child in the sixth-grade last year you more than likely are paired with a Kindergarten student now.
